Herr Unfuck U, Austria has an ages old arms industry, with companies like Steyr and Glock. In an unrelated post elsewhere, I saw the name Glöck, with an umlaut. I truly am ignorant about the variations in the German language, so which is correct, or are they both right in each case? I understand many Europeans ditching grammatic tools or constructs when converting to English, so that dunderheads like me don’t struggle too much. I’m just curious.

The founder of that company was Mr. Gaston Glock so it‘s a safe bet that company‘s name is GLOCK.
Talking of sidearms, there are two pistols I would much rather own than a Glock:

Agree mostly, especially the GP-35, can’t believe that the fools at FN ditched it. Mind you, it is known for a weakness that saw many slides crack given hard use with 9mm sub-gun ammo (like Mk.2z stuff). I reckon that could be cured just by substituting the slightly beefier slide of the .40 S & W calibre model. I own 3 Steyr Hahn models, a Chilean 1911, an Austrian 1912 and a beater of the same type that had served as a Viet Cong substitute sidearm. Apparently they got them via a cousin Commie state, but apparently they always had problems obtaining the right 9 x 23mm Steyr ammo. A wonder that they didn’t convert them to 7.62 x 25mm, like many other types they did. I don’t have any access to them, not having a current licence.

During the Second World War the Germans developed another P38 prototype which (if I‘m not mistaken) used an extremely powerful 9mm cartridge. I guess they ran into troubles because of that even though the P38 was extremely sturdy built.

Oh no, sorry Unfuck. Can you please delete the first one of those comments? When it appeared not to have been accepted by the programme, I edited it slightly and hit ‘submit’ again. That’s what you get for letting me on your blog!

I replaced the content of your first comment with the content of your second, edited comment. Thus my reply makes more sense.
Don’t worry about fooling around here. After all this is an asylum 😄

Okay, thank you for that, but I can’t help worrying. I’m not the one with the keys!

Yes, Walther were quite industrious prewar. I’ve seen illustrations of a variety of slide profiles for the P-38, and they made a couple of prototypes in .45 ACP also. A friend owns an example of the Heeres Pistole, the prewar civilian model of the P-38. What a different world in the art-deco era, look at the aesthetics of prewar Walther pocket and service pistols, and the ugly Walthers of today! For a while, I also owned a Walther KKJ .22LR sporter rifle, not bad.

G’day Unfuck, regarding Teutonic aristocracy, I assume that no new titles have been created since the days of the old Austrian Empire? Or can the state grant new titles, such as knighthoods? Is the honourific device ‘von’ still used by people these days? Herr Ritter von Unfuck U certainly has a certain cachet about it. Do you display the Unfuck U family crest, or coat of arms at Unfuck U towers?
